BORROWED BODY
2023
Directed image works, archival pigment prints
Text intervention, editioned
BORROWED BODY examines the use of inherited imagery as a site of direction rather than origin.
The figures presented arrive already known—carrying established gesture, form, and cultural residue.
Rather than producing an original character, the work operates through authorship as selection, interruption, and framing. Text is embedded directly into the image, functioning as designation rather than explanation.
Butterflies obscure vision and ornament the figure simultaneously, suggesting transformation without clarity. Meaning is not resolved but held temporarily—borrowed, not retained.
Each work is presented as a closed instrument within a finite system.
*This project invites viewers to consider how form and identity are mediated by cultural reference — a conversation useful in media studies or visual theory.
